Provenance:
Private Collection, Toronto
Note:
Peter Schuyff is a leading international artist whose work is identified with the “Neo-Geo” movement in New York. The Neo-Geo movement is one that is less contained to a generation or zeitgeist, but rather symbolizes an engagement with modernist form and its various offshoots (minimalism, pop art, op art, etc.). This movement hopes to keep alive the tradition of geometric abstraction that began in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
This contemporary painter, sculptor and musician is renown for painting abstract works on top of found paintings. Schuyff was born in the Netherlands, educated in Canada at the Vancouver School of Art (what is now the Emily Carr University of Art and Design), and was based in New York and now Amsterdam. He is an important Dutch/Canadian/American artist associated with Askley Bickerton, Peter Halley, and artist Jeff Koons. He has sat for Andy Warhol; and been represented by leading gallerists like Mary Boone, Gagosian, Leo Castelli and in the Douglas Udell.
Schuyff has been exhibited and collected internationally, including the art collection of Herbert and Dorothy Vogel and private collections in Canada and most recently in 2015, in the 48th Annual Spring Show, at the Douglas Udell Gallery, Calgary.
Peter Schuyff now lives and works in the Netherlands.
