George Sumner was born in San Francisco, CA and studied at the San Francisco Art Institute. He is an environmental activist who began his career by creating marine-themed abstracts in the 1970s. He had an unusual method of painting large canvases which involved application of his paints with baby diapers prior to blending and layering.
