A White Jade 'Taotie Mask' Jade Vase and Cover, Qianlong Period, 18th Century
清 乾隆 白玉雕饕餮纹双耳盖瓶
Of angular, pear-shaped form, the body finely carved in shallow relief with a band of archaistic 'taotie' mask patterns, the waisted neck with a thinner band of 'chilong' dragon heads and with a pair of stylised elephant-form handles, all raised on a spreading foot and surmounted by a domed cover, the stone of even pale tone with slight mottling and miniscule area of russet inclusion
including cover 7.3 x 3.6 x 1.5 in — 18.5 x 9.2 x 3.9 cm
