Large Bronze ‘Daoist Immortals’ Vase, 19th Century

Heavily cast with branches of prunus flowers and several small birds along the tall funnel neck with a pair of thick and twisting handles rendered in the form of branches emerging from the sides and joining the baluster body decorated with a continuous scene of the eight Daoist Immortals, each astride a muscular animal including horses and bixie and surrounded by scrolling clouds and flying bats, the tapering body surmounting an elongated and spreading foot decorated with crabs and carps, the whole covered in a diaper ground
height 38.6" — 98 cm.
