Modern Chinese Scroll Paintings from the Collection of David Lin (Lots 252-261)
Dr David T.W. Lin (1915-2002) was a prominent Chinese-Canadian surgeon who received his medical degree from McGill University in Montreal and post-graduate training from Cornell Medical Center and New York Hospital. He was a Professor of Surgery at Nanking Central Hospital from 1946 - 1948 when he returned to Montreal to practice and teach at the Royal Victoria Hospital. Among his many affiliations and associations, he was a member of the Overseas Chinese Commission, President of the Montreal Chinese Hospital and Founding President of the Canadian Chinese Cultural Society. He was involved in many charitable organizations and was President of the Chinese Benevolent Association, as well as a Life Member and Past President of the Montreal Central Lions Club. In recognition of his outstanding achievements and charitable work, Dr Lin was awarded the Order of Canada in 1986.
This collection of paintings was acquired through purchases and gifts in appreciation of Dr Lin’s many years of dedication to the health and welfare of others and for his promotion of Chinese culture.
