Pair of Bronze Chariot Axle Caps and Pins, Western Zhou Dynasty, 11th to 8th Century BC

Of tapering cylindrical form with continuous leiwen bands surrounding the narrowing flat top well-cast with a mythical bird, two rectangular slots towards the base accommodating the fitted pins crisply rendered as horned mythical beast heads each with a broad face and bulging eyes, both caps with a brownish patina and covered in greenish incrustations. Acrylic stand
length 5.1" — 13 cm.
