Provenance:

From the Nesbitt Collection in Montréal, acquired before 1920 and thence by descent within the family

Note:

The zodiac jade figure in this style is extremely rare. As of today, there are only two complete sets of 12 zodiac in existence: first was a Gift of Heber R. Bishop to the Metropolitan Museum, New York, in 1902, accession number 02.18.730; the second was from the Y. K. Ma collection, Hong Kong, then sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, November 28, 2006, lot 1416. Also see a single rat figure sold at Christie’s London, November 7, 2014, lot 478.
