清 19世纪早期 金漆木雕山水人物拔步床

Of paneled construction using poplar wood, the facade boasting four tiers of panels above the entranceway, decorated throughout with individual panels of dynamic figural scenes highlighted in gilt, red and black lacquer, the edges embellished with openwork carving, five open windows to the back and three to the sides, all supported on six posts connected by a network of stretchers forming the base; base interior dimensions 23 x 78 x 52 in (58.4 x 198.1 x 132.1 cm)

Note:

The four characters above the entranceway read 'luan feng he ming' 鸞鳳和鳴, which literally translates to 'two phoenixes singing in harmony'. The metaphor refers to the happiness cultivated by a married couple in perfect unity, which is further represented in the current example by the two phoenixes carved in openwork below the four characters.
