Note:
The scene depicted on this panel is known as the “Uprising of the Slaying of the White Serpent”. According to the legend, after slaying the large snake, Liu Bang encountered an old woman crying by the side of the road. When he approached, she prophesied of a new emperor before mysteriously disappearing and many believed that the prophesy foretold Liu Bang’s destiny as emperor.
