The Work & Artist Bio

It would seem, if you lifted Witch Moon, pink smoke, 2020, from its purple pillow that you held all knowledge — present and future — in your hands. Weighty with FASTWÜRMS’s deep familiarity with Raku ceramics, this pink globe would both ground you and raise you up. The list of media for Witch Moon includes pine needles and witch hair reduction — more traditional in Raku than it sounds, where horse hair, feathers or other weightless material is scattered on the object’s surface immediately after firing. In the fortunate case of Witch Moon we have, for all eternity, a surface graced by pine needles and witch hair.

Formed in 1979, FASTWÜRMS is the cultural project, trademark, and joint authorship of Kim Kozzi and Dai Skuse. FASTWÜRMS artwork is poly-disciplinary, including performance, immersive installations, collective making and social exchange projects, and is characterized by a determined DIY sensibility, Witch Nation identity politics, and a keen allegiance towards working class, queer alliance, and artist collaborations. FASTWÜRMS is a Witch polity, creating and circulating aesthetic knowledge as a shared emancipation and liberation narrative. Since FASTWÜRMS’ formation they have had more than 50 solo exhibitions worldwide. They have exhibited and created Public Art Commissions and installations, performance, video and film projects, across Canada and in the United States, Europe, Brazil, Korea, Japan, and the Philippines. FASTWÜRMS were the recipients of the Governor General Award in Visual Arts, 2023. FASTWÜRMS is represented by Paul Petro Contemporary Art.
