The Work & Artist Bio
Landscape and the natural world have always been central to Sarah Anne Johnson’s work. This photograph of a prairie landscape silhouetted against a broad dusk sky makes this particular image iconic. Three vertical rectangles in hand-applied rose gold leaf are foregrounded against a mauve and rosy sky. The delicate gold leaf which flutters on the columns with the slightest breath are, at the same time, monumental and call up, in contrasting scale, Richard Serra’s massive vertical steel plates installed in 2014 in the desert in Qatar.
Sarah Anne Johnson received her Fine Arts Honours Degree from the University of Manitoba in 2002 and her Masters in Fine Arts from Yale School of Art in 2004.
