Sir Frank Brangwyn (1867-1956), British
AFTER TRAFALGAR, CIRCA 1911
Oil on board. Unsigned. The left side cut down.
17 x 21 in — 43.2 x 53.3 cm
A dramatic work with part of a looming battered battleship right in stormy seas, the crew trying to escape down ropes, a small rowing boat tossing in the waves to the left. In the background more crippled vessels. The lighting makes the whole scene almost surreal.
We are grateful to Dr. Libby Horner for her help in identifying this work which will be number O4491 in her forthcoming catalogue raisonne
