  • Pierre Outin (1840-1899)
Provenance:

Prominent Private Family Collection, Dundas, ON

Note:

Like many artists of his generation, Pierre Outin frequented the Nouvelle Athènes Café and associated there with Manet, Pissaro and Goeneutte. In the context of the Paris Siege and the Commune, Outin settled in Auvers sur Oise with some of his friends. At this time, he painted the portrait of his friend and artist Eugène Murer and possibly this lot, a very different style of work from his Salon paintings. With its rapid execution, this painting is stylistically similar to Vincent Van Gogh’s work painted there in 1890.
