CONTAINING 78 MOUNTED WORKS: 32 WATERCOLOURS; 34 DRAWINGS AND 12 VARIOUS PRINTS
The 32 watercolours including:
7 detailed botanicals signed with Initials M.A.W. including: “The Rose Carnation” (one signed and dated 1800 at N.Y.) as well as studies of morning glories and mixed bouquets;
3 watercolours of exotic birds “from Africa”; inscribed, including one signed and dated 1828 by James Mathews (sp.?);
2 miniature Neopolitan gouaches: “Naploi” and “Vesuvius Erupting” each on fine thin paper;
One silhouette of a woman full length;
Studies of Seashells, butterfly, and landscapes including detailed topographical and architectural views and ruins including identified views of “Birmingham Castle”; “Stafford on the River”; “St. Martin’s Church, Canterbury, 1862” and a country house signed: “S. Hanley”.
34 drawings including several figural and animal genres, one signed by the artist, Caroline Sloane Stanley;
Cartoons and caricatures, one signed J.S. Hanley (?), another annotated: “A Trip to Lyndhurst “and dated 1824;
signed drawing by J. Allen, “Bushy Lodge”, dated 16 Sept. 1854; a drawing titled “Villa Ere (?) in Tiverton”; a few charming vignettes of a mother leading a child; a portrait “Admiration” with handwritten text rendering this emotion; and with
12 various antique engravings: the first page with engraving: “Pray Give a Trifle” and the last page, a print “Thy will be done”. All contained in a Victorian album with marbled hard cover boards and calf spine with S & J Fuller “Temple of Fancy”, London label inside front cover
