Note:

A prolific marine painter, active from 1872, James achieved success as a maritime painter of seascapes and coastal scenes, particularly around the Cornish coast. He is widely regarded as one of the finest seascape artists of the 19th century with numerous exhibits at the Royal Academy between 1886-1897.
