While known for his abstraction, Gershon Iskowitz himself would be the first to tell you that abstraction wasn’t his intention. In 1975, he explained that he painted “a whole realistic world…the experience, out in the field, of looking up in the trees or in the sky, of looking down from the height of a helicopter.”
The title of this composition, Spring Greens-B, may offer an insight into what Iskowitz was seeing and feeling when he made this painting. Indeed, the vivid greens burst with new life, and the blues are those of a clear sky.
