McLachlan writes in Canadian Numismatics: “This medal was first given in gold, silver and bronze to the Canadian exhibitors at the (Philadelphia) Centennial Exhibition in 1876."

Note:

Paulin Tasset (1839-1921) was a French sculptor and medallist.
