Note:
The Journal of Captain William Pote Jr. serves as a vital primary source documenting colonial captivity during King George's War, third of the four French and Indian wars. Captured by French and allied Indigenous forces, Pote meticulously recorded detailed logistical data, geopolitical manoeuvres, and prisoner mortality rates. This rare historical narrative significantly enriches scholarship regarding 18th century North American imperial conflicts. Having been smuggled out of the prison, the journal went missing for 150 years and was then discovered in Geneva. The current lot is the first published edition of this historically important document.
