Note:

Since childhood, Rayner had summered on Georgian Bay, near Magnetawan. Burnett writes: “His response to this northern landscape, touched by his interest and experience in the East (Rayner had travelled to Turkey, Iran and India on a Canada Council grant), had led to his finest pictures, from River Window (1965) (Art Gallery of Windsor) to Flying Out (1980), characterized by brilliance of colour and breadth of gesture.”
