WALTER HAWLEY YARWOOD
welded metal, mounted to a wooden base
29 ins x 9 ins; 73.7 cms x 22.9 cms
Yarwood’s sculpture resembles lava rock having cooled and hardened after a volcanic eruption. Forming a spontaneous totem, the metal spikes, twists, and ripples. Yarwood makes effective use of juxtaposition by anchoring the frontispiece to a wooden support. This lot is exemplary of the innovation brought to welded structures by the artist.
