Note:

Roberts brings life to the playful spring scene by capturing his subjects in their most attractive light. The cylindrical catkins are almost diaphanous, secured gently to their twigs and highlighted by the radiant white of the pitcher. The bread is bulbous and tender, as if taken from an oven but moments ago and ready to be snatched up by eager (and voracious) onlookers. Roberts’ creates a backdrop for the scene with a tray placed vertically on its edge – as if offering up the still-life as a cornucopia – a promise of the bounty yet to come with the onset of Spring.
