Note:

Born in Saskatoon, Tinning trained at the Art Students League in New York. He settled in Montreal in 1939 and, in June 1942, joined the 2nd Battalion, Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment). In April 1943, he was appointed an Official War Artist and these watercolours were executed in June and September of that same year.
