Note:
The 1939-1940 New York World’s Fair was the second largest American world’s fair of all time. It was the first exposition to be based on the future. As the war was well underway in Europe by the time of the second season opening the theme of the fair was changed to “For Peace and Freedom.”
Artwork was also on display at the individual international pavilions and Pegi Nicol MacLeod showed at the Canadian Pavilion. MacLeod was living in New York during this period.
To boost attendance in 1940 to cover the costs of the Fair, an emphasis was placed more on the amusements than the educational aspects and these appear to have inspired this lot.
