  • FRANK HANS JOHNSTON, O.S.A., A.R.C.A.
Provenance:

Private Collection, British Columbia

Note:

Johnston was a versatile artist, who painted a wide range of scenes in Ontario, Quebec and the Arctic, and was equally comfortable working with oil, tempera or watercolour.

He was as well trained as any of his Group colleagues though much has been made of their differences. While his paintings were frequently more decorative than those of his counterparts, they consistently show virtuoso handling of light, pattern and atmospheric effects which account for their timeless appeal.
