Private Collection, Toronto.

Note:

The artist, critic, curator and activist Andy Fabo was born in 1953 and educated in Calgary, Alberta where he attended both the University of Calgary and the Alberta College of Art. Throughout a long and illustrious 30-year career his work has been exhibited both nationally and abroad. In the 1980s he lived in New York, where he was awarded a Canada Council studio residency at P.S.1. He now resides in Toronto, where he first gained recognition as a painter through his association with ChromaZone, the art collective that drove the city’s figurative painting movement in the early 1980s. Since that time, Fabo has made a shift in media; while he now works primarily in drawing, installations, video and digital imaging, he continues to explore notions of personal identity in his art, frequently focusing on his own sexual orientation and its relation to the broader society. In 2005 Fabo's work was surveyed in a solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art in Toronto. He is represented in numerous reputable collections, including those of the Art Gallery of Ontario, the National Gallery of Canada and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
