Many of the prints produced by Betty Goodwin in the 1990s were commissioned works “…for the purpose of raising funds for such worthy causes as women’s shelters or underprivileged children […].” This work, Untitled, from the Mémoire du corps series, (1993), was created to benefit the Artists for Kids Trust to help ensure that the visual and performing arts programs in British Columbia were available to the children of that province. A mixed media work, it consists of two sheets of geo-film (a textured plastic that Goodwin prefers in her drawing practice), one above the other. The prints are accented with drawings in oil stick, pastel and gold paint. Referencing the imagery in this print, which features a black, concrete tub, Goodwin stated, “I first saw the photograph of bathtubs from the asylum where Van Gogh was. All these tubs were lined up. Every person left part of themselves in it. Their skin.”
