Lot Report

Provenance:

Private Collection, Toronto

Note:

Renowned for her black oil-pastel and ink drawings, Cathy Daley explains that her “work investigates memories of “...what it means to be female in the western culture and explores cultural representations of the feminine and body.” Airy and playful images of long legs, fluttering dresses, and iconic black pumps are inspired by fairy tales, yet at the same time, the rendering of opaque ink on transparent paper evokes a darker and more ambivalent attitude toward femininity.

Daley’s work is exhibited widely around the world and is included in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Canada, Kelowna Art Gallery and Tom Thomson Art Gallery among others.
