Note:

Rather than a pure painterly gesture, Scott Everingham paints what he calls “narrative abstractions,” blending rich colour and expressive strokes into legible (if exploded) stories. Here, there are impressions of structure here in the hard right-angles that look like walls or stilts, or the rebar-like fragments that curl around cantilevered juts. The title, “Wet Meteor Fallout,” suggests a source for this breaking-out - maybe the very sea-weedy looking snarl in the center, splashing on impact - or the seafoam crashes that now read as waves breaking on a pier. It’s the moody palette that draws the work back together and keeps the composition moored: soft blues and teals, glints of yellows and drifts of oranges, delivered in abbreviated sweeps and the hazy mires of a deep horizon.
