presented May 30th, 1809, the single edge curved fullered blade with ornately etched and gilt decoration on blued ground and presentation engraving to ormolu hilt with fasces quillions, the knuckle guard formed as serpent entwined club of Herclues, the knurled ivory grip draped with skin of the Nemean lion, the acanthus langlets with applied naval trophies in ormolu mounted scabbard further engraved with naval trophies, with two suspension rings retaining fragment of gilt thread belt
length 36" — 91.4 cm.

From the Patriotic Fund at Lloyds to Mr Barry Sarsfield Master's Mate of H.M.S. Galatea for his Gallantry & Perseverance when Commanding a Boat Belonging to that Ship in Boarding & Carrying the French National Corvette Lynx of 18 Guns & 161 Men, as Recorded in the London Gazte of the 14th April 1807.

CONDITION DETAILS

Surface corrosion to blade, wear to fore edge bluing. Chips and staining to ivory grip. Scabbard leather replaced/poorly restored/taped.
