Literature:

A similar cup is illustrated by Douglas Bennett in Collecting Irish Silver, p. 23, figs. 6 and 7, who notes that "Johns enjoyed a long spell as a silversmith and was both Sheriff and Mayor of Limerick."

CONDITION DETAILS

Engraved with a double-headed eagle crest below the rim on one side; minor repairs to lower joins of both handles; dent at the side of the foot; accumulated salts scale on the inner rim has been removed and there appear to be a couple of spots of extraneous solder at the inner edge - a little expert attention required; otherwise substantially in good condition; well marked at the rim beside one handle with maker's mark and STERLIN
