Note:
Samuel Deacon, born 1746 at Ratby, Leicestershire, was apprenticed to Joseph Donisthorpe of Normanton le Heath Leis., in the 1760s. He was a journeyman to Thomas Lindley of Leicester, and started his own business from his father’s house in Barton in 1771, and built a two-storey forge and workshop in Odstone Road in 1790. The ‘Lilacs’ was the family home of the Deacons from 1771 to 1951. Samuel was also the minister at Barton Baptist Church. Samuel died in 1816 and was succeeded in business by Seth Deacon.
