Note:

The arms, crest and motto 'BE JUST AND FEAR NOT' are those of Arnold, probably for the family of Aaron Arnold (1794-1876), Isle of Wight and New York City, founder of the department stores, Arnold Constable.
The elaborately caparisoned elephant supporting this comport is similar to models found on a magnificent fruit stand in the Manoogian Collection, formerly in the Sam Wagstaff Collection (sold at Christie's, New York, January 20th, 1989, lot 228), and recently exhibited in 'Gorham Silver, Designing Brilliance 1850–1970' (Rhode Island School of Design Museum, 2019; Cincinnati Art Museum, 2020), courtesy of the Detroit Museum of Art
