Engraved with Nelson family armorials and inscribed: “This Small Goblet, more emblematic of the Property than of the Esteem of the Donor, was presented to the REVd. HUGH NELSON, by his Sincere Friend GEORGE GRIERSON the 18th Day of JULY 1792: on his Christening his first Child, as a public Acknowledgment of his having been to him an able Instructor & an indulgent Preceptor for the space of Seven Years that he was partly under his Tuition: but more particularly in Return for his very disinterested Friendship since.”
