Commissioned 15.2.1850 as an Ensign, 73rd Regt.
Transferred 26.4.1850 to 24th Regt, purchasing a Lieutenancy 5.5.1854
Appointed Paymaster 11.7.1856
Honorary Captain 11.7.1861
Hon. Major 11.7.1866
1850-59 stationed in India and served in the Indian Mutiny
1859-66 stationed in England
1866-74 stationed in Malta and Gibraltar
1874-79 stationed in South Africa. Served in the 8th Kaffir War and the Zulu War 1879. Killed in action 22.1.1879 at Isandhlwana.
He was the oldest officer in the battalion and was married to Agnes Tracey in 1874.
