Note:

This memorial edition print was issued in England on the occasion of Washington’s death on Dec. 14, 1799. The same image was used earlier for an earlier portrait edition prior to the President’s demise. The engraving was done from a Gilbert Stuart portrait of Washington done from life and is considered one of the better “second generation” renderings of the President.
