Lot Report

Literature:

Artscanada 27.6 (Dec. 1971/Jan. 1972)

Exhibited:

The exhibition for the postcards marked: “The Image Bank Postcard Show” began at the Fine Arts Gallery at the University of British Columbia (UBC) from October 13 through October 30, 1971 and would subsequently tour across Canada by the National Gallery of Canada's Extension Services.

Note:

The Image Bank Post Card Show was organized by the Vancouver-based artists Marcel Dot (Michael Morris) and Mr. Peanut (Vincent Trasov). The show contains an accumulation of some 5000 postcards by approximately 300 artists from around the world and sent by mail with the published stamps (one sheet included in the lot). These 66 post cards from the original first edition, contained in a publisher’s box, are accompanied by 63 related postcards (some duplicates). Michael Morris (Dot) who started the exhibition notes, "A most important part of the exhibition has been the printing of 1200 sets of 80 original postcards for artists in the show. This was made possible by the Canada Council, and through the enthusiastic and generous help given by everyone at Coach House Press in Toronto.”
