Lot 216 Details
CHÂTEAU DE BEAUCASTEL CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2000 (2)

Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
2 x raised "year label"

Deep garnet colour with a faint touch of brick in the rim. Classic Beaucastel earthy/meaty/gamey nose with an undercurrent of stewed strawberries, Chinese dried plums and soy. Quite elegant on the palate with a medium to full body and a reasonably taut structure of medium to high acidity and a medium level of velvety tannins. Layer upon layer of spices and savoury flavours. Long finish. Drink now to 2024. WA 94

CHÂTEAU DE BEAUCASTEL CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2001 (4)

Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

This inky/ruby/purple-colored cuvee offers a classic Beaucastel bouquet of new saddle leather, cigar smoke, roasted herbs, black truffles, underbrush, and blackberry as well as cherry fruit. It is a superb, earthy expression of this Mourvedre-dominated cuvee. Full-bodied and powerful, it will undoubtedly close down over the next several years, not to re-emerge for 7-8 years. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2025. WS 93 WA 96
