Lot 238 Details
ELDERTON COMMAND SHIRAZ 2002 (2)

Barossa Valley, South Australia.

A stunning effort, the 2002 Shiraz Command exhibits an inky/blue/purple color as well as a sweet perfume of camphor, blueberries, blackberries, acacia flowers, and smoky, toasty oak. Full-bodied, opulent, and viscous, with huge, but sweet tannin, decent acidity, and a muscular, long, 40+ second finish, this is a classic, potentially long-lived, Barossa blockbuster. It’s accessible now, but ideally needs another 2-4 years of bottle age, and should keep for two decades. October 2006 WA 95

YALUMBA THE SIGNATURE 1999 (2)

Barossa Valley, South Australia.

A compelling offering, the 1999 Shiraz/Cabernet The Signature (56% Cabernet Sauvignon and 44% Shiraz) possesses a dense purple color along with a sweet, multilayered personality revealing aromas and flavors of earth, blackberries, cassis, and vanilla. With considerable authority and power, it requires 2-3 more years of bottle age, and should last for 12-15 years. August 2003 WA 95

YALUMBA THE SIGNATURE 2001 (2)

Barossa Valley, South Australia.

The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz The Signature is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Shiraz that spent 20 months in a combination of French and American hogsheads as well as smaller barrels. Its deep, sweet perfume of blackberries, camphor, damp earth, vanilla, licorice, and pepper is followed by a powerful, flavorful, intense wine revealing high tannins as well as impressive concentration. This superb Cabernet should easily age for 12-15 years. October 2005 WA 95

YALUMBA THE SIGNATURE 2002 (4)

Barossa Valley, South Australia.

The 2002 The Signature (56% Cabernet Sauvignon and 44% Shiraz) was given the same upbringing as its young sibling, but 2002 is a better vintage for Yalumba. The 2002 exhibits smoky, blackberry, incense, charcoal, and floral characteristics along with tremendous glycerin, richness, purity, and teeth-staining levels of extract. Remarkably, there are no hard edges, and the acidity, tannin, and alcohol are beautifully integrated. This cuvee should drink well for 15 years. Drink: 2005-2020 WA 96+
