CHÂTEAU CLOS FOURTET 2005 (1)

Saint-Émilion. Premier Grand Cru Classé B
u. bn. scraped & marked label.

Dense ruby/purple, with notes of crushed rock, blueberry and blackberry fruit intermixed with some licorice and chocolate, this full-bodied, massive wine from proprietor Philippe Cuvelier coincides with the resurrection of this premier grand cru classé in St.-Emilion. As the wine sits in the glass, notes of espresso roast and chocolate emerge. This full-bodied classic should continue to drink well for another 25 years. This is a killer effort. Drink: 2015-2040 June 2015 WA 98

CHÂTEAU CLOS FOURTET 2009 (1)

Saint-Émilion. Premier Grand Cru Classé B
u. bn. marked label.

The 2009 Clos Fourtet is medium to deep garnet colored and opens on a medicinal/Band-Aid note, giving way to appealing baked red and black fruit notes with touches of dried herbs, tree bark, chargrill and a ferrous waft. The palate is full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins and plenty of muscular fruit, finishing earthy and just a little hard. March 2019 Drink to 2035 WA 95

CHÂTEAU CLOS FOURTET 2010 (1)

Saint-Émilion. Premier Grand Cru Classé B
u. bn.

The wine has an opaque blue/black color and abundant notes of forest floor, spring flowers, black raspberry and blueberry liqueur in the aromatics along with hints of espresso and white chocolate. The wine is dense, full, rich, unctuously textured and very full-bodied, with its extravagant glycerin, fruit and extract covering the wine’s somewhat tannic structure. This is a bigger, more restrained and structured wine than the outrageously flamboyant and prodigious 2009. Give it 5-8 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 30-40 years. February 2013 Drink: 2018-2058 WA 98

CHÂTEAU CLOS FOURTET 2012 (1)

Saint-Émilion. Premier Grand Cru Classé B
u. bn.

With flawless integration of acidity, tannin, wood and alcohol, a full-bodied mouthfeel and stunning richness, this is impressive and certainly one of the vintage's top wines. It should evolve beautifully for 15-20 years, and be drinkable in 3-4. Yields were a modest 32 hectoliters per hectare with the alcohol at 14%. April 2015 Drink to 2039 WS 94 WA 95

CHÂTEAU CLOS FOURTET 2014 (1)

Saint-Émilion. Premier Grand Cru Classé B
u. bn. marked label.

The 2014 Clos Fourtet has developed a very perfumed bouquet with pure black cherry, raspberry and mineral aromas that seem very precise and relatively sophisticated compared to its Saint Emilion peers. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red cherry and cranberry fruit, the tannins both fine but firm. This is a supremely well-focused Clos Fourtet, perhaps one that shows more restraint than previous vintages, yet there is genuine focus and intensity towards the almost piercing finish with vivid black, mineral-soaked fruit. This is a superb Clos Fourtet that transcends the promise from barrel. March 2017 Drink to 2045 WA 94
