GREENOCK CREEK VINEYARDS & CELLARS SHIRAZ ROENNFELDT ROAD 2001 (1, OC)

Barossa Valley, South Australia.

The 2001 Shiraz “Roennfeldt Road,” from an outstanding vintage, is the finest since the near-perfect 1998. Opaque purple/black, it offers a mind-boggling bouquet of pencil lead, earth, white truffle, pepper, violets, licorice, blackberry, and blueberry compote. Dense, opulent, and full-bodied, there are mouth-filling, spicy, blue and black fruit flavors with notes of chocolate in the background. This sensational effort demands 8-10 years of additional bottle age and should drink well through 2030. October 2007 Drink 2015-2030 WA 99+

GREENOCK CREEK VINEYARDS & CELLARS SHIRAZ ROENNFELDT ROAD 2002 (1, OC)

Barossa Valley, South Australia.

The two Roennfeldt Road cuvees, from one of Barossa’s most esteemed addresses, appear to be the finest since the legendary 1998s The 2002 Roennfeldt Road Shiraz was aged in new French oak. Aromas of pain grille, truffle, mineral, violets, blackberry, and blueberry compote are ethereal and lead to a voluptuous, densely layered, succulent, complex Shiraz with 10-15 years of aging potential, This extraordinary effort should drink well through 2040. February 2009 WA 100

GREENOCK CREEK VINEYARDS & CELLARS SHIRAZ ROENNFELDT ROAD 2003 (1, OC)

Barossa Valley, South Australia.

The 2003 Shiraz Roennfeldt Road offers up an ethereal perfume of sandalwood, incense, lavender, Asian spices, and blueberry compote. Rich, dense, and very long in the finish, the wine’s 18.5% alcohol pokes through with a touch of heat. For that reason, it is likely to be controversial. December 2009 WA 96
