CHÂTEAU DE BEAUCASTEL CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2011 (1)
Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
u. 1 cm. marked & scraped label.
Reminiscent of a lighter weight 2009, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape offers up a sweet bouquet of spiced black cherries, plum, truffle, saddle leather and underbrush. Coming from tiny yields (which were down 50% from 2010), this medium to full-bodied 2011 is gorgeously textured and has solid mid-palate depth, terrific purity of fruit and ripe tannin. Relatively approachable and enjoyable even now, it should nevertheless evolve gracefully for 15-20 years. Drink 2015-2031 October 2013 WA 94
CHÂTEAU DE BEAUCASTEL CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2015 (1)
Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
u. 1 cm. marked & scraped label.
Bottled in late July, the 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape is an amazing effort, especially when one considers the production volume. Loaded with black cherry fruit and cola-like spice, this full-bodied, richly textured wine never seems heavy or warm, while exotic Indian spice notes linger on the finish. It should drink well for at least 20 years. October 2017 WA 96
PAUL AVRIL CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE CLOS DES PAPES 2012 (1)
Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
u. 1 cm. marked & wrinkled label.
There's a lovely mushroomy savoriness layered against black cherries and cola, earth and spice. Full-bodied, supple and almost creamy-plush in texture, it's ready to drink now yet should easily go another decade. August 2019 Drink: to 2030 WA 95
