CAYMUS VINEYARDS CABERNET SAUVIGNON SPECIAL SELECTION 2011 (1)
Napa Valley.
A brilliant wine, and one of the stars of the vintage, the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection boasts aromas of blueberry pie, blackberries, cassis and white flowers. This full-bodied, velvety textured, delicious 2011 is already drinking well, and should continue to do so for 10-12 years. It is a terrific success for the vintage. October 2013 WA 95
PAUL HOBBS CABERNET SAUVIGNON BECKSTOFFER TO KALON VINEYARD 2006 (1)
Napa Valley.
Not surprisingly, the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard is a profound Cabernet Sauvignon. The equivalent of a Bordeaux first-growth Pauillac, it boasts abundant quantities of creme de cassis, lead pencil shavings, cedar, and subtle smoky oak and espresso notes. Atypically sexy for a 2006, it is full-bodied with oodles of concentrated black fruits, stunning purity and length, and a finish that lasts for nearly a minute. It should hit its apogee in 3-4 years, and last for three decades or more. December 2008 Drink: 2011-2031 WA 96+
TOR KENWARD FAMILY VINEYARDS CABERNET SAUVIGNON BECKSTOFFER TO KALON CLONE 337 2008 (1)
Napa Valley.
The same can be said for the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard Clone 337. (This clonal study being conducted by Tor Kenward reminds me of what Carol and Fred Schrader are doing with their various offerings from the Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard that are based on different parcel and clone selections.). Slightly better but with a character similar to the Clone 6, the Clone 337 offers abundant aromas of cassis, licorice, forest floor and toasty oak. Full-bodied with a multidimensional personality as well as tremendous texture and length, it should drink well for 20+ years. December 2010 WA 96
