Lot 236 Details
DOMAINE DE MARCOUX CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE VIEILLES VIGNES 1998 (1)
Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Absolutely sensational and flirting with perfection, Marcoux's 1998 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is still vibrant ruby in color and offers off-the-hook notes of sweet kirsch, dried flowers, garrigue, licorice and toasted spices. Pure silk on the palate, with a massive, unctuous, yet still seamless texture that never put a foot wrong, this beauty is fully mature - and I see no reason to hold off - but will certainly continue to shine for another 5-10, and I suspect have a graceful evolution beyond that. This is an extraordinary Grenache. (Jeb Dunnuck) Drink: 2014-2022 99 WA

DOMAINE DE MARCOUX CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE VIEILLES VIGNES 2000 (3)
Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

The 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes carries its 15% alcohol well. Though a compelling offering, and undoubtedly one of the wines of the vintage, it does not possess that magical extra dimension of greatness found in the 2001. Nevertheless, I would be thrilled to drink it anytime ... anywhere! The floral component of white flowers intermixed with melted licorice, blackberry liqueur, plums, and prunes is followed by an expansive, sexy, silky-textured, full-bodied Chateauneuf with great depth, purity, and lusciousness. As with its younger sibling, the finish lasts for nearly a minute. Again, it is a singular expression of Chateauneuf du Pape that is totally different than its peers. 96 WA
