Note:

Similar to marquetry, certosina is a decorative inlay technique popular in renaissance Italy using wood, bone, metal and mother of pearl to create geometric patterns. The Embriachi family studios produced secular works for the emerging European middle class in the late 14th/early 15th centuries.
