Provenance:
Direct from the artist’s collection;
By descent to his son, Lahore, Pakistan
Note:
The artist’s son tells that this small scale watercolour was made by the artist from left-over strips of drawing paper the master used to paint larger works and drawings. According to Chughtai’s son, the artist never threw out the smallest of his blank watercolour and drawing sheets of paper. This small work depicting a delicate lotus flower was retained for the artist’s personal enjoyment and remained in his studio until now. Chughtai never sold or offered these small watercolours in the past. They are considered extremely rare.
