Lot Report

Literature:

Peter Falk, “Who Was Who In American Art 1564-1975”, Sound View Press, 1999, pg. 1614

Note:

Falk reports that Scottish born Hopkin emigrated to the U.S. in 1843, settling permanently in Detroit. He and his fellow artists founded the Hopkin Club, later called the Scarab Club.
This work was acquired by the present Private Collection, Toronto, along with a collection of scarabs, a fitting tribute to this founding artist.
