Note:
In the accompanying written statement William Suida (1877-1959), opines that this work is an original by Paolo Veronesse. It can be dated to the 1570’s based on the pleated collar and its similarity to the collar worn by King Henri III’s during his visit to Venice in 1574 and his portrait in the Ducal Palace. The costumes are similar to Paolo Veronesse’s figures of young hunters in the Villa Barbaro Giacomelli in Maser and in the Villa Chiericati near Vicenza. Suida also remarks on the young warrior’s noble gracefulness and exquisite colorism (sic) as hallmarks of Veronesse’s matured style.
