From the Property of the Late Robert Reford, Esq., of Drummond Street, Montreal sold in his sale at Christie’s, London, “Old Master Drawings” February 25, 1969, Lot 65 as “Bernini” entitled: “Two Men Fighting”

This drawing relates to a presentation drawing of similar subject in pen and wash held in the Collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. See Charles Avery, “Bernini, Genius of the Baroque”, p.48, illustration 51 and p. 208, illustration 303

Note:

Robert Wilson Reford (1867-1951), of Montreal engaged in the shipping business and amassed a large collection of Old Master and European pictures, collected primarily between 1909 and 1948 from well known dealers in London, New York and Paris.
