Lot Report

Provenance:

Private Collection, Burlington, Ontario by descent, found in the residence the mother purchased in 1970 from Marian Wright, Cap a L’Aigle, Charlevoix county, Quebec

Note:

This painting and all the furnishings, paintings, costumes, letters and photographs in the Wright residence were sold with the house when purchased by the present owner’s mother in 1970. The sofa and the artwork on the wall in the painting were still in the living room of the house when it was purchased. This painting hung over the fireplace.
Kerr-Lawson did in fact spend time in the area of Charlevoix. The nephew of the Wright family served in WWI as did Kerr-Lawson. In the attic, several trunks were located containing handmade costumes along with photographs of the family taking part in theme festivals (including Alice in Wonderland).
