Larry Len Peterson, Philip R. Goodwin American’s Sporting & Wildlife Artist, p. 266-7, the published colour print illustrated in colour p. 297, fig. 4.56 as “Bruins Dilemma” and as cover designs reproduced on p. 223, fig. 3.34; and p. 225, fig. 3.38.


As Peterson relates, Goodwin loved to paint bears. This theme remained a favourite subject of Goodwin’s and his patrons.

Bruin’s Dilemma was published as a colour print (Collection of Patricia and Charlie Johnston Collection). The original painting was also reproduced in colour as the cover design for the December 1925 issue of Outdoor Recreation: The Magazine that Brings the Outdoors in (fig. 3.34). It was also reproduced in colour as the cover design for the February 1931 issue of Rod and Gun in Canada (fig. 3.38)
